Cat Spare Parts to Have On-Hand for Your Heavy Equipment: Cylinder Seals

In our on-going series of taking a look at Cat spare parts to have on hand in case something happens, today we’ll take a look at the lowly cylinder, “lowly” as in often overlooked. The cylinder seal works in tandem with the cylinders, which hold the hydraulic fluid that then powers most often the boom in heavy equipment. The job of the cylinder seal is to ensure that there are no leaks of hydraulic fluid, that no other material can penetrate the cylinder and affect performance, and to ensure that hydraulic pressure is maintained for optimal performance.

CAT CYLINDER SEALS TO HAVE ON-HAND

Piston Seals

Piston seals help in the piston to prevent damage to your machines and help ensure optimal machine performance. We offer over 200 piston seals for your Cat machines that vary based on bore diameter, grove width, and one or two-piece seals. Our Cat 130-1857: Piston Seal works to prevent oil from penetrating into the cap end of the cylinder. This cylinder seal is made from the best products, including Teflon. One of our one-piece seals, 096-5167: Piston Seal, fits many wheeled excavators, material handlers, excavators, work tools, and more. Check these out online today!

Head Seals

Head seals, or O-rings, help to seal off the head of the cylinder, preventing material from entering and hydraulic fluid from leaking. The key to these O-rings, including this

5H-8848: Ring, is that they are made from the highest-quality materials designed to match the fluids, temperatures, and pressures that are found in Caterpillar heavy equipment. They offer superior seals and resistance to wear and tear. Some are coated with PTFE to help minimize twisting and cutting during the installation process. Emphasis is placed on ensuring a tight seal. Try our 6V-7658: Seal for your forestry machines, wheel loader, material handler, and excavator today!

Buffer Seals

Buffer seals, such as our 152-9022: Buffer Seal, are extremely helpful in protecting rod seals from an increase in pressure. You can think of a buffer seal as a backup plan. The primary buffer seal affords the majority of the protection of the rod by sealing but also by allowing hydraulic fluid in to work its magic. This helps to keep the rod dry and helps ensure any trappe fluid gets to where it needs to go. We offer many different types of buffer seals for your heavy equipment, including our 135-1999: Buffer Seal, so be sure that you choose the right one for your needs. Press-In Wiper Seals

Press-in wiper seals help to prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic cylinder and causing problems. We offer four types:

  1. Single-lip (the lip is the edge of the seal) wipers that help to clean the rod as it retracts. Our 155-9194: Press-In Wiper Seal fits this type.
  2. Double-lip wipers which cleans the rod as it retracts and seals the oil in, helping to prevent leaks. They are usually found in a metal case for added strength.  Another name for this type of wiper is canned wipers or J wipers (the metal forms a J shape when looked at from the point-of-view of the cross section). Our 227-1148: Press-In Wiper Seal can help.
  3. A modified press-in single wiper seal. Check out our 152-5063: Press-in Wiper Seals.
  4. An angled single press-in wiper seal. Try our 1U-4021: Press-In Wiper Seal today!

Admittedly, this can be confusing, which is why the service and Cat parts technicians at our Wagner Cat dealers are here to help. Call, or stop by with your questions today!
