HOW A GENERATOR WORKS

A generator “creates” electricity based on principles discovered in 1832 by Michael Faraday. Known as the Father of Electricity, Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, electrolysis and diamagnetism, which forever changed the way humans lived.

It’s important to note that generators do not create electricity; instead, they use mechanical energy from the movement of electric charges in wires of electric circuits to generate the electric current. Generators harvest the flow of these currents that, in turn, allow electricity to exist. This happens by using an engine, which requires a fuel source.

OUR GENERATOR SERVICE

Since generators require an engine, which is a machine that converts mechanical energy into a force that moves objects and has many component parts in which to do so, they need regular service. All machines will wear down over time, so service and maintenance become crucial to its operation and optimal function and performance.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A GENERATOR SERVICE?

For generator service, all of the parts will be checked for function and performance, as well as to ensure no part is missing or damaged. This includes:

  • A check on the oil. All engines require oil for lubrication to reduce wear and tear on the system.
  • Inspection of the fan and alternator belts
  • Check on the batteries, cables, and lugs. The health of your generator’s battery is crucial for optimal operation.
  • Inspect the radiator for leaks or clogs
  • Clean the generator parts, including the brushes and slip rings
  • Inspect the engine control panel for any loose connections
  • Tighten the hoses and check for brittleness or cracks
  • Ensure the air cleaner elements are in good working order
  • Start the engine to read the gauges and adjust the RPM if necessary
  • Calibrate and clean transfer switches
  • And more
