What is a Bearing?

A bearing is a small component part that helps to reduce friction between moving parts and keep the motion of the part to the desired motion. They are extremely common in all types of machinery, including heavy machinery because they rotate, which allows them to make motion easier.

There are many types of ball bearings that you might need for your Cat heavy equipment. A ball bearing is one that uses rolling elements with a point contact between the balls and the raceways. These rotate exceptionally well; however, they cannot support heavy loads. There are many types of these as well, from deep-groove ball bearings to angular contact, self-aligning, and thrust ball bearings. Each has a specialized use.

For heavy equipment, you will see a lot of thrust ball bearings. Thrust ball bearings consist of two bearing discs with raceways for the balls. These ball bearings were developed for one purpose: to absorb axial forces (the force that acts along the axis of the component or the assembly). Wagner Equipment Co offers many different kinds of Cat Thrust Bearings for you to use.

Cat Self-Aligning Ball Bearings help with the alignment of shafts and the absorbing of radial forces. Self-aligning ball bearings include a double row of balls and an inner ring raceway so that the inner ring can swivel within the outer ring. Shop all of our Cat part bearings today.

Roller bearings are used to help sustain a heavier load rating than other ball bearings. However, you lose the speed due to an increase in friction because of the increase in the points of contact. Types of roller bearings include spherical roller bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, and needle roller bearings. Again, each of these bearings has a specific use. For example, a needle roller bearing is great for when space is constricted. Tapered roller bearings help support axial forces, while spherical roller bearings help absorb high radial loads and moderate axial loads.

Our Cat Parts Store offers Cat Tapered Roller Bearings, which help to absorb radial and axial forces in one direction. Cat Cylindrical Roller Bearings help to reduce friction and protection between mating parts. They are great for low to medium-speeds and high loads applications. In essence, any bearing that your Cat machine uses, we carry. Shop our Cat Bearings today!
